As Mr. Meehl Retires

Since my third grade year at Cape Fear Academy, when our new Headmaster arrived, Mr. Meehl has been steadily improving our school. From each grade having about 20 students to the “big” classes of between 40 and 60 we have now, Mr. Meehl has lead the school to new heights.
As a senior at Cape Fear now, I am able to think back to many great memories of working with our headmaster, and I appreciate his working to establish relationships with his students. From being his third grade representative in 2002 and going to his office once a month for pizza, to being his inbound marketing assistant this year, I realize what an integral part of student life he has been. As he retires this year I know he will be missed and am thankful to have had him for most of my Cape Fear experience.

Freedom is Right Around the Corner

There is no way college applications can be this frustrating. It’s LIFE consuming! And senior year is supposed to be fun. Right? Maybe college is so great because by the time you reach it you’ve already gone insane from just getting there. What did students do before the Internet? I mean I’m struggling even now…I can’t even imagine writing all of this out. I’m only three-fourths of the way through three out of five of my colleges and that’s all thanks to the common application. Without that beautiful design I would be writing less of a blog and more my own obituary. It lets you put all of your general application information on one site and send it to all colleges that are registered on the CommonApp site…aka my lifesaver. The hardest part of all of this is most definitely the essays. I know what I want to write but getting it down in a beautifully constructed word document that both defines me as a person and focuses on a single topic is a mountain I’d rather leave at Outward Bound (our senior class’ backpacking trip). To all of the other 12th grade prisoners chained to college applications along side me and those juniors recently sentenced to be imprisoned, keep your head up and your fingers moving…freedom is right around the corner.
